This stone was quite a find that immediately made it's way into my sharpening kit, although I later found out that it's actually an "Arashiyama 6000x". These two stones are one in the same, the 6000x rating is the correct label.
This is a great 6000x stone in the quality of edge it provides. If you like an edge that bites then this is the stone for you. I find it cuts very fast yet isn't aggressive and it has such a great feeling, providing feedback, and making the sharpening experience more pleasurable. This stone will allow you to skip the use of many coarse and medium grit stones thus reducing your sharpening times without reducing quality of your end result.
The Takenoko is made from synthetic #6000 grit abrasive and natural clays.
It is one of the best medium grit polishing stones available and I believe this is why it has been also marketed as an 8000x stone, it just works better than what a 6000x stone should. The Takenoko could easily be used as your last stone in your sharpening progression.
Stone comes mounted on sturdy wooden base.
Nagura stone included.
Use the nagura stone to refine and smooth the stone's surface after flattening/lapping sessions to bring out the true potential of the stone. Also can be used to clean glazing from the stone's surface. Do not use to build a slurry or paste (a big time no-no) as nagura stones are much coarser than this 6000x stone it's being used on and this coarse grit will only serve to dull your knife. Rinse stone after using nagura.
Does not require pre-soaking, just splash water on and go to work.
