For extreme stock removal to repair very damaged edges and broken knife tips. A safe alternative to powered grinding with no worries of heat build up that can damage tool temper. Also intended for flattening of Japanese sharpening stones.

Atoma diamond plates are somewhat different from other diamond plates. To prevent clogging, when used as a stone flattener, the diamonds have been electro-deposited with surface interruption.  When the diamond surface because worn, as they all do, only the thin surface plate is replaced - not the entire complete base. This makes for a "green" solution that is more cost effective as well.

Atoma diamond plates are reported to be the fastest cutters while providing the smoothest surfaces (on tools and stones) and also giving us hand sharpeners a flattening plate that doesn't stick to stones during lapping.

 
 When lapping polishing stones I follow with our synthetic nagura to smooth out the stone's surface texture which allows for greater performance. This combination works great and I use it on all of my polishing stones.

Atoma diamond plates are recommended for flattening both Japanese synthetic and the very hard Japanese natural stones.
