I've gone ahead and combined all of the best stropping gear that I've been able to find into one "All U Need" system (kit).
I am 100% certain that this kit will be all that you will ever want and/or need for de-burring and stropping your Japanese knives. It's the exact same kit that I use everyday in my work - not a thing is different.
The All U Need Strop Kit comes with the following....
Qty. 1 - Dupont Polycrystalline Heavy Concentration Honing Spray - 1 Micron - 2oz
This
is the finest quality diamond spray/slurry available on the market
today. This product has been tested and approved by us specifically for
use on Japanese knives.
Best suited:
For use on the textured leather bench hone. Use caution when used with felt
as it will bubble felt up if too much is applied. Use VERY sparingly on
felt honing pads.
Directions:
Apply a coating to leather pad/strop or felt honing pad but take care
not to soak as damage to pads may occur. I suggest using a layering
approach much like you would use while spray painting. Apply several
light coats versus one heavy coat.
Concentration: Heavy
Qty. 1 - Lacewood Bench Hone Base - 10"x3" - by PhoenixKnifeHouse
Provided
is a very beautiful Lacewood platform/base that comes with rubber feet
for sure grip, magnetic material attached for easy pad interchangeability.
Qty. 1 - Textured Leather Honing Pad - 10"x3" - by PhoenixKnifeHouse Pads are backed with steel - attaches magnetically to the Lacewood 10"x3" Bench Hone Base.
This
leather has a strong draw (or pull) to it that I like especially
for western style double bevel Japanese knives.
This
leather pad is very thin and not easily deformed through depression
which means it is very difficult to round edges while using it and it's
just resilient enough to where it's resistant to being easily cut.
*Do NOT spray this leather pad with the 0.25 mic Dupont diamond spray that we previously sold as this will cause damage. The new 1mic Dupont diamond spray is designed to work with this leather pad.
Qty. 1 - ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt De-Burring Pad - 10"x3"
Pad is backed with steel - attaches magnetically to the Lacewood 10"x3" Bench Hone Base.
Our ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt Deburring Pad is designed to give the
ultimate in burr removal specifically to Japanese knives when used in
conjunction with our Hard Felt DeBurring Block.
I've tested and used many types of hard felt in the past and I can
tell you that none compare to our ULTRA-Rock Hard version in regards to
deburring, draw, and wear. This is a premium hard to find natural wool
product imported from India.
Our ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt Pad will not roll
or dub a knife's edge due to it's heavily compacted surface, there's
just simply no give at all in this pad.
Qty. 1 - Hard Felt De-Burring Block
Our Hard Felt Deburring Block is designed to give the ultimate in
burr removal specifically to Japanese knives when used in conjunction
with our ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt DeBurring Pad.
This block is to be used after each and every sharpening stone you employ!
The proper use would be to slice into a corner of the block and run
the knife's edge through from heal to tip. This action will allow the
felt to draw burrs away and off of the cutting edge. Used along with our
ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt Pad you will be able to remove even the toughest
most stubborn burrs in no time at all leaving a crisp clean edge behind.
The steps to success in using our felt deburring system would be:
1. Slice into the Rock Hard Felt Pad
2. Strop on the ULTRA-Rock Hard Felt Pad (both sides of the knife)
3. Slice into the Rock Hard Felt Pad
This is a premium hard to find natural wool product imported from India.
Our Hard Felt Deburring Block is not to be compared with slicing
into wood, cork, or any other material normally used for deburring. This
simple felt block has become one of, if not the most,
significant advancements in deburring Japanese knives that I've
experienced since I began sharpening them. I couldn't imagine sharpening
without one.
*Please note - Some imperfections
or variations may appear in the surface of the leather and felt pads/blocks. This is normal and
perfectly OK as these are natural materials. Leather pad may be light brown, dark brown, or black in color but are all the same textured leather surface being supplied.
