I expected the Suehira to be a very hard "hone" and difficult to use, but I was pleasantly surprised. It hugs the blade well enough to sharpen it in addition to adding a polish. The stone resharpens most of my kitchen knives without moving them up from courser stones. I highly recommend it.

The first got fr. Cherry Co. Japan Imports about 10 yrs. ago.It was a Blue box wt. sticker(Shiage Toishi Masamoto).I really liked this stone & used it for yrs. mostly on my Yanagi at work.
Much later I read alot about the Suehiro Rika on Forums & decided to order one.Was very surprized to find out that it was the exact same stone in a diff. box.
I have collected a few more polishing stones.Still the Rika is one of my favorites. It is a terrific stone for the price.

I picked this stone up after reading glowing reviews for some time now. It seems to be a knifeknut industry standard so I had to try it. After using it now for a bit over a month I'm really glad I picked this one up. It's on the softer and muddy side of things which makes it easier to get an even consistent finish. The finish is matte, kinda 2k or 3k looking but very even. Cutting speed is pretty good for stones in this grit. I think the edge it leaves is great for a pro or home kitchen, nice balance of toothiness and refinement. I've used it on White2, V2, 19c27, VG10, White1, SKD11 and some other unspecified Carbons and semi-stainless so far and it's worked well on all of them. Overall it's a nice stone, I'm glad I have it and I think it's a heck of a deal at fifty bucks.

I bought the Rika 5x based on Dave's recommendation and have no regrets. This stone is probably my favorite synthetic stone. It has great feedback and doesn't dish too much. I usually use this as my finish stone for a lot of my knives since I like the edge that it leaves. I also use it to strop occasionally in between sharpenings to freshen a knife up.

I love this stone, really do. It feels just lovely to sharpen on, and the edge that it leaves is just great for finishing double bevel knives. The finish it leaves is matte, but the feeling of the edge is aggressive yet refined.
It works best soaked, but for touch ups you can splash and go - with a lot of splashing for the couple of minutes.
