Super Togeru Knife Sharpening Guide
The Super Togeru allows any sharpener of any level (even the noobiest newbie) to make crisp flawless bevels without scratching the sides of the knife. It allows for the use of all waterstones, even the softest stones like our synthetic aoto, or the coarsest like our Beston 500x which can take some time to safely master. This means that a new sharpener doesn't have to worry about which stones he/she are limited to, they can purchase what they want or what's within their budget knowing that they will achieve great sharpening results each and every time they use this guide without damaging the sides or distorting the edges of their knives.
While not completely a new concept, the Super Togeru is an upgrade that works much better than the old style metal guides that either wore themselves and/or the stone away prematurely. This new upgrade implements extremely hard ceramic guide rails that glide over the sharpening stone rather than be abraded by it or abrade it.
Of all the things this guide offers the one thing that really seems to be the greatest value to me is the ability to learn from it as it'll quickly teach muscle memory for holding a low angle for sharpening Japanese knives. With use this guide will show you what you need to know about keeping the blade steady, how to apply correct finger pressure to the edge (not spine), and how to lift the handle to sharpen through the curve and approach the tip without over-sharpening it. It takes the difficulty of struggling with angle control out of the equation leaving you with freedom to study and learn what you're doing and all while making a great edge. Plus, snap it back onto a knife and in a flash you can go to a polishing stone for touch-ups since it offers simple straight forward repeatability that other guides do not.
I personally find this guide a great little gadget that is extremely useful and I can't help but wish it was around when I started sharpening.
Size: 100mm x 20mm
Use: Knives from about 5"-8" in length, 1" in height, & 3/16" (max) thick at the spine. For longer or flexible knives the use of two guides may be required.
This guide is for Japanese double bevel knives only. If used on non-Japanese knives it will not allow for the more obtuse angles required.

*Tip - Tape the spine of the knife with blue painter's tape to keep the guide from scratching the knife's surface. This guide is soft plastic however grit from the sharpening process can get up underneath the guide and cause damage. Also, many Japanese knives are clad in very soft metals that can be easily scratched from installing and removing the guide.
**No guarantee is made (nor implied) that the ceramic guide rails will not wear when used on any particular stone. In our testing we saw no wear to these guide rails even when used on 500x stones, however even though this is highly abrasion resitant ceramic being used, diamond plates, and possibly some waterstones, may wear them and this should be noted.

Very easy to install and use.  The piece of mind it provides me as one who is new to the angles required for hand sharpening makes it well worth the price.  Thanks to this guide, I have no unwanted scratches on my knives as I learn proper sharpening technique.  Without the guide, this would surely not be the case for me.
