King 800x WaterStone
The King 800x is the stone I most use to create an even appearance to the surface of the blade road of Japanese kasumi single bevel knives.

This is the stone that I use as my base for creating a kasumi (mist) finish. This stone gets used on nearly 100% of all wide bevel Japanese clad knives that I sharpen professionally.

This stone produces a matte finish. For rustic kurouchi finished knives this is often the finish level I leave,. For yanagis and other refined finished knives I will follow this stone with either natural stones and/or finger stones.

There is no one answer as to what stones should be used to create that kasumi finish for every knife but you can count on the King 800x to give you a smooth contrasting appearance every time.

Requires 30 min. soak time in water before use.
Size - 207 x 66 x 34mm

Great budget stone April 15, 2015
Reviewer: Ben F. from Seattle, WA United States
This stone is best known for its kasumi finishes on single bevel knives, but it is a useful midgrit stone for double-beveled knives as well. It is quite muddy which I enjoy. For the price you can't go wrong.

Kasumi April 12, 2015
Reviewer: BH from Totowa, NJ United States
Want to keep that nice misty kasumi finish?  This does it really, really well.  I'm still new to sharpening but compared to my other stones it gets nice and muddy and leaves a super finished-looking, misty finish.  Love it and worth the $.

Used in professional kitchen April 9, 2015
Reviewer: Bryan Kim from sunderland, MA United States
We bought this along with our King 1200.  It is a rougher grit and similar elements to the 1200 but really sets the foundation to move up to the higher grits.  When we use the higher grits without this stone there is a huge difference in performance!  Highly recommend!

Contrast machine September 12, 2012
Reviewer: Len from Richmond Hill, ON Canada
You want that contrast between a dark/hazy jigane and shiny hagane? You want your clad knives to have that showroom kasumi look?

This is your stone for that if you don't want to dive into the world of natural whetstones. Heck, not all naturals will give you that contrast anyways.

This is a seriously thirsty stone. If you don't leave it in water long enough before using, you can spray/drip/splash water on it and watch it soak it up in seconds.

Once you get it going though, and assuming you hold a nice consistent angle so that you aren't hitting your edge with this stone but just above it, you're going to get that showroom kasumi look on your knives.

Not a must-have, but a very economical nice-to-have to give you back that like-new look to your clad knives.
